Abstract

This paper presents the material production of an ESP (English for Specific purposes) course in an English training programme for civil engineers with emphasis on Construction Machinery Engineering. The book, tilted_“English for construction machinery”, is offered as a textbook for the subject English 3 at University of Transport Technology. The objectives of the subject English 3 are to provide students with the basic knowledge of the construction machines as well as to develop their English skills based on the technical terms in each lesson. As a result, students are highly capable of translating the texts, writing reports, comprehending - ESP magazines and especially in communicating with partners in professional practices. The course is designed to consist of five units relating to - major machines such as bulldozer, excavator, motor grader, tower crane, asphalt plant, bored piling machine and asphalt paver. It is also arranged to contain the different activities (reading comprehension, communication, writing, speaking, listening, etc.) with the aim of stimulating students to study English in Construction Machinery Engineering more. The authors expect, with the materials provided, students will improve their own English skills and develop themselves academically in higher level.
